ℹ️ Introduction
🎯 Project goal
“Create a modern testing system that works great for both medical diagnosis and lab research, delivering accurate and reliable test results every time.”
👥 Target users
The LightCycler PRO system is designed for three main types of users: Lab Technicians who run daily medical tests, Research Scientists who do DNA experiments, and Lab Managers who run the lab and handle paperwork. The system's screen layout and menus are specially designed to help each of these users do their jobs quickly and easily.
🔬 Customer journeys and user flows
Through detailed workflow analysis, we mapped how different users interact with the LightCycler PRO, identifying critical paths and decision points. This helped optimize task sequences and create an interface that makes complex molecular analysis more intuitive and efficient.
✨ High-fi screens and prototyping
The LightCycler PRO's screen is designed to be easy to use for everyone. It meets the WCAG standards, it has clear, readable text with good color contrast, works well for people who are colorblind, organizes information clearly, and accessible clickable areas when using it with lab gloves.
📝 Usability testing
We tested the interface with 6 lab technicians to see how easy it was to use. Each person tried out common tasks while sharing their thoughts out loud. This helped us check if they could easily navigate the system, complete their work, and handle any errors that came up.
📊 Results and findings
The LightCycler PRO's screen design got excellent feedback from users, scoring a 92 SUS. Lab staff appreciated how easy it was to use the system, especially the clear menus, easy-to-read data displays, and responsive touchscreen. While users were very happy overall, they suggested some improvements for switching between different testing modes and managing sample plates.
